Intramurals '06

“And the over-all champion for this year’s Intramurals is none other than the…… Extra Hot Seniors!!!” This was the most beautiful line I heard during the awarding ceremony to end Intramurals ’06. We have been to difficult challenges before we were crowned the champions.

Last November 2006, the University of the Philippines High School in Cebu had their Intramurals. It was started with a short colorful parade of all the year levels. Each year levels were headed by their respective muses and escorts. Our bets were Mariel Stephanie Alvizo and Lorenz Gideon Esmero. The torch was also lighted to open Intramurals ’06 after the parade. Then the presentation of the candidates for the Mr. and Ms. Intramurals followed. All wore their best sports attire and were able walk gracefully in front of the judges. It’s not just the looks that were scored but also the intelligence of the contestants and on how they answer the questions thrown to them. I bet the judges had a hard time in choosing who’s going to win. After the contests, the cheer dance competition followed. All were nervous for their respective presentations. Each year levels delivered their very own cheer dance to the crowd with smiles on their faces and the determination to win. After all had presented, the judges were all busy tabulating the grades. A few minutes later, the winners were then announced. The Juniors bagged the 1st place in the cheer dance competition. Mariel Stephanie was crowned the Ms. Intramurals 2006 as well as Adrianne of the Juniors as Mr. Intramurals 2006. All accepted their defeat and humbly acknowledged their victory.

The following sports were played during the said event: basketball (boys), softball (girls), volleyball (boys and girls), soccer base (girls), soccer (boys), table tennis (boys and girls), chess and scrabble (boys and girls). I was a player of soccer base and softball.

It was a challenge for the Seniors to win each game because we are the oldest than the other year levels. We are expected to be the champions. It was not easy for us to grab the 1st place of all the games because the lower years especially the Juniors were also competitive and were really determined to beat us.

In the game that I played, we were also struggling to win because the lower years were also good. Especially in softball, the Sophies improved a lot. They were our opponents for the finals. They had beaten their ates, the Juniors. We were nervous at that time because we were thinking if the Sophies will beat us and we will lose the opportunity in defending our title. But with God’s grace and our teamwork, we were able to win. It was a great pleasure to be the champions again. I was very proud of myself because at that time, I was able to contribute to the victory we got. Last Intramurals ’05, I wasn’t able to play during the finals because I was injured.

We were declared 1st placers of the games softball, basketball, soccer base, volleyball (boys) and soccer. Almost all of the major games were won byus.

During the closing ceremony, a dance and singing contest also happened. Each year levels must have a contestant for each category: solo, duet and doblekara. Christille Angeli Gultiano (solo), Doanne Lyre Montecastro and Nico Antonio Sagun (duet), and Euvic Ferrer (doblekara) represented the Seniors.
Christille was declared the 1st placer for solo with her winning piece, I Still Believe by Mariah Carey; Doanne and Nico were the 2nd placers with their song I’m Your Angel by Cline Dion and R. Kelly and Euvic also was the 2nd placer for doblekara with his contest piece “”.

“And the over-all champion for this year’s Intramurals is none other than the…… Extra Hot Seniors!!!” We were declared the champions. All the hard work we’ve done was all worth it. We have learned that Intramurals is not just a day of playing games but also on how to win it. To be able to reach the top, each of members of the team must cooperate. Teamwork is the key to success! Congratulations SENIORS for a job well done!
